ERS (Electrical Road System) Slide-in project within FFI program FFI – Fordonsstrategisk forskning och innovation
2
Slide-in project Project name: Slide-in teknik för kontinuerlig överföring av energi till elektriska fordon, Fas2 Project time: Sept 2013 through Dec 2015 Project responsible: Volvo Technology AB FFI programme: Energi & Miljö FFI budget: MSEK

Slide-in project description Phase2
Continuation of FFI project evaluation (with Scania) to develop and evaluate 2 different ERS systems, with a system design intended for Swedish highway traffic, capable of delivering power for heavy-duty traffic.

Phase 1 technical report Phase 2 technical proposal Cost updates (infrastructure, vehicle) Vehicle, and road technical updates Segmented electrical road

KTH (Business models) Use Slide-In meetings and result for deepened stakeholder analysis and relate that to technology, infrastructure and business model research. Analysis of cost parameters in the ERS from different actor perspective. Compare Slide-In with other international ERS activities. A ERS study from LA is under process which analyze similarities and differences compared to the Slide-In project with regard to context, process, and how ERS technologies are related to business model issues. LTH (ERS power simulations)
Phase 1 - Done Dynamic simulation of traffic flow Simulation of currents, voltages and component temperatures in the power system along the ERS Uses a short idealized fictive road as an example Phase 2 - Planned Improved modeling of vehicles Use RV 40 Göteborg – Borås as a real world example of e.g. traffic patterns and slopes System optimization, battery size vs amount of ERS installed 132 kV 33 kV 1 transformer station per km Simulated traffic paterns Ref. LTH Lars Lindgren

Chalmers team. Current status and outlook
Objective: modeling and combined motion/interaction control design of the arm Modeling. From the real-system to a mathematical model (completed) Real system Mathematical modeling and simulation Actuators forces (τ) Road unevenness (h) Position and velocities Abstraction (i.e., links and joints) Control design. Position and interaction control (ongoing) Control objectives Model-based, feedback control law Mass-spring-damping –like behavior (impedance control) Keeping the arm in contact with the electrified lines Balancing contact force and position Ref. Chalmers, Paolo Falcone

Vattenfall (Power infrastructure)
Planned activities during Phase 2 of the Slide-in Project: Analyses of power requirements, grid connection solutions and cost estimates for a grid infrastructure supporting a “Slide-in Electric Road” between Jönköping and Helsingborg / Malmö (during Q4 2014) Further cost analyses of needed “Traction substation” solutions (at the road side) along the “Slide-in Electric Road” (during 2014 / 2015) Analyses of “partial ERS” solutions on highways in cooperation with the project partners (during 2015) Ref. Vattenfall, Lennart Spante, Fredrik Carlsson
9
Trafikverket (Road information)
Traffic data available, more detailed data can be delivered. For more reliable cost estimation; needs deeper analyze, in cooperation with e.g. Vattenfall and other partners. Accessibility for maintenance work and repairs etc. Ref. Trafikverket, Åke Löfqvist

New static charging test installation, Södertälje
Road installation Shielding EMF Alignment FFI är ett samarbete mellan staten och fordonsindustrin om att finansiera forsknings-, innovations- och utvecklings- aktiviteter med fokus på områdena Klimat & Miljö samt Säkerhet. New static charging test installation, Södertälje Why? Faster iterations of concepts (120m vs. 1200km) What? Optimize shielding Interface testing Dynamic power transfer, Mannheim Improved efficiency measurement during dynamic behavior Validation of shielding concept Improved segment switching control Ref. Håkan Sundelin, Scania
