Our education Provides you with an understanding of the subjects of business and economics Gives you the skills to use a number of methods and tools including the ”management language” Gives you training in an ”academic attitude” Gives you training in processing large amounts of information Gives you training of your analytical capacity Is relevant both as a main subject and as complement to other education

Utbildningsplan, kursplan, studiehandledning (eller motsvarande) är de formella ”kontrakten” som gäller, men dessa kan tolkas olika. Innan du planerar din tid, försäkra dig om vad som gäller, även när det gäller arbetsfördelningen mellan dig och dina kurskamrater. Commitment: I akademiska studier betonas den akademiska friheten att fritt söka kunskap och att kritiskt granska kunskap. Som student förväntas du engagera dig i olika uppgifter utifrån dina förkunskaper, mål och motiv för att studera. Ingen kan ”ge” dig meningsfullhet och engagemang, det måste du själv vara med och skapa. Ditt ansvar är att använda den studietid du har så att du lär och utvecklas på det sätt som passar dig och din livssituation bäst, men du har också ett ansvar för att ta vara på de gemensamma resurser som erbjuds och som kräver att du anpassar dig till gemensamma överenskommelser. Interaction: Du lär dig på egen hand, men lärande får mening i olika sociala sammanhang. Många kurser och utbildningsmoment organiseras för att du som student skall lära om samarbete, ledarskap, kommunikation samtidigt som du arbetar med olika uppgifter och/eller examinationer. Samarbete kräver ömsesidighet, att du både ger och får något tillbaka samt att du tar ditt ansvar för hur arbetsprocessen fungerar och det arbetsklimat som skapas. Samarbete med lärare och andra resurspersoner, liksom personer som inte tillhör den egna arbetsgruppen, kan bidra till vidgade perspektiv och utmaningar av sådant som gärna tas för givet. Feedback: Återkoppling är nödvändigt för lärande, men det är svårt, både att ge och ta emot. För att du skall kunna ta ansvar för ditt eget lärande och veta vad du behöver förbättra och utveckla behövs återkoppling från lärare och från medstudenter. Att bedöma sin egen kunskapsutveckling och kunskapsbehov är svårt att göra på egen hand. Därför är det också viktigt att du ger återkoppling till dina lärare och kurskamrater. Var konkret när du ger återkoppling, tala om vad du tycker en person gjort bra/dåligt och varför och i vilken situation. Återkopplingen skall vara ett verktyg för att utveckla en verksamhet eller en persons kunskap, färdigheter och kapaciteter.

Course participation: General principles The courses are considered equivalent to full-time work (40 hours per week) Focus on one topic at a time Individual work and group work is expected besides scheduled activities Presence is expected for scheduled activities – but mandatory only when explicitly mentioned If you miss out on voluntary learning activities, it is at your own responsibility to compensate If you miss out on mandatory activities – make sure you know what to do instead (read the study guide, inform teacher) In either case: you miss out on learning opportunities and points that cannot be retaken! General rule: don’t miss out!

Teamwork The benefits are many: Working in teams is a common form of organisation in working life, hence relevant to train for Working in teams means that more can be accomplished than alone Working in teams gives opportunities to learn from others and share what you know Working in teams means that you get to know new people that you can both work and have fun with But the benefits are not accomplished without work!

Principles of examination 04/12/2018 Principles of examination For mandatory examination activities, three opportunities are typically offered The department standard for assessment (marking period) is ten working days The grade is communicated via Lisam and/or the Student portal No extra assignments – or alternative examination forms/dates – are offered except those described in the course study guide A pass (grades A-E) means that the exam cannot be taken additional times in order to receive a better grade The course grade (A-F) is set only after all mandatory assignments of the course are completed

Principles of examination, continued A grade set it is not negotiable Grading is an act of public duty (formal authority) If an obvious mistake has been made (such as a miscalculation) a grade can be revised Contact the examiner or Student Expedition (If something is amiss, don’t pick a written exam up!) It is obligatory to sign up in advance for a scheduled written examination: The deadline to sign up is 10 days before the examination date Sign up via the Student portal or via the app LiU-app At LiU, written exams are anonymous (an anonymous identity number replaces the student’s signature on the exam)

”Do I need to buy the course book?” Always make sure that you are equipped with the mandatory literature for the course – in due time It is generally not sufficient to just attend lectures – in order to pass the exam you must read and understand the literature too!

”Can I go on this trip?” If there are activities outside of the course that you want to attend: There will be no ”special treatment” for students who prioritize other things than course activities Make sure that you know what you will miss out on and if/how you can compensate for that Inform the teacher/course director
