1 Krav på datahanteringsplaner i Horizon erfarenheter efter ett och ett halvt år i pilotprojektet The Commission is running a flexible pilot under Horizon 2020 called the Open Research Data Pilot (ORD pilot). The ORD pilot aims to improve and maximise access to and re-use of research data generated by Horizon 2020 projects and takes into account the need to balance openness and protection of scientific information, commercialisation and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), privacy concerns, security as well as data management and preservation questions.

4 Vad kräver EU (Horizon 2020)
Projektet presenterades i Bryssel den 15 november för EU kommissionen och deras forskningsråd ERC (European Research Council). Reflektioner från Åsa Gunnarsson efter mötet i Bryssel “What we learned is that communication is essential, which we already know, but the policy project officers that were the organizers of the conference day did clear statements that without communication with the stakeholders (EU parliament, EU institutions, lobby-groups on European level, member-country parliaments, international organisations and the public) and the other projects under this call on societal challenges we will not succeed. And we also learned that there is a new organization concerning policy impact.”

8 Dear Asa, Further to my , I am hereby passing you some comments related to the Data Management Plan (DMP). As you know, FairTax did volunteer to be part of the Open Access initiative / pilot and one of the requirements was to submit a DMP by M6. External (data management) consultants have now looked into several submissions (of the DMP) anticipating that the pilot will eventually become a normal praxis (NB! Only the DMP and not, for instance, the ethics deliverables) The DMP is a living document and might, indeed, require once the research advances iterations. Please you might just want to consider the following before the next submission. I personally think that already by bringing elements from the ethics deliverables you will strengthen the document. Kind regards, Petri This is not a particularly detailed plan. I would expect the next iteration to be better structured and far more explicit. As it stands, the plan pays little service to standards and legal compliance without going into much (or in some cases any) detail about what this will actually mean in practice. The reader does not get a sense that the project team have yet given data management a great deal of thought, and – as this is certainly something which benefits from early consideration. Other comments: - I would recommend a more tabular approach, listing each dataset that will be created or reused, with key aspects (e.g. type of data, any restrictions, etc). I would encourage the use of a dedicated data management planning tool, such as DMPonline, to help the authors to structure their plan. - It would be useful to append (or otherwise link to) the consent agreement(s) that interviewees will sign, as well as providing reference to any ethics procedures mandated by the research institutions themselves. - More detail should be given on the specific laws (e.g. Freedom of Information, Data Protection) and institutional ethics procedures that pertain. Simply stating that “appropriate licensing” will be used is inadequate, and the authors should be much more explicit. Again, a tabular approach would help to ensure that each dataset has the appropriate level of detail listed in the plan. As things stand, there is considerable scope for information to slip between the cracks.
