SAFETY EQUIPMENT USED IN MARITIMEOPERATIONS One of the most important sections in maritime courses consists of boat and ship operations. Safety is an important parameter to be considered when handling a boat. Every person who spends time on a boat or vessel should learn to use different types of safety equipment.
LIFEJACKET A crucial lifesaver, a lifejacket provides buoyancy and is worn in situations which may require surviving on the open seas. Life jackets may be inflated, are generally made of lightweight material and are brightly coloured to ensure higher visibility.
FLOATING RINGS Also called as towing rings, these are used in case a person falls off the boat. These rings are attached to the vessel with lines so that the person can be towed back to safety. The rings are buoyant and are worn around the torso so that they don’t slip way and offer a firm grip.
FLARES An excellent piece of equipment for safety, electric torches and flares are used as indicators when people get lost. Flares and flashing torches can be spotted from a long distance, thus making it easier for rescuers to spot the person that needs rescue.
